Cardboard Balers

Cardboard balers compress loose cardboard into dense bales, from small 50kg bales through to full mill-size bales of 500kg or more. They’re widely used in packaging, goods-in and despatch areas where cardboard builds up as part of daily operations. Baling cardboard reduces the amount of material stored in bins and skips, helping cut collection frequency and improve site housekeeping. Mill-size bales are accepted by recyclers and may generate a rebate, depending on grade and market conditions. Landfill Alternatives supply new and refurbished cardboard balers to buy or hire, with machines available in different sizes to suit varying volumes and site layouts.

Cardboard Balers for Recycling

Cardboard balers compact loose cardboard using hydraulic pressure. Material is loaded into the chamber and compressed until a bale is formed, then tied off using plastic strapping or baler wire.

Depending on machine type and cardboard quality, bale weights can range from smaller bales around 50kg through to mill-size bales of 500kg or more.

Cardboard balers are supplied in several formats:

  • Vertical balers - used where cardboard is loaded by hand throughout the day, often close to where the material is generated.
  • Multi chamber balers - used where cardboard is baled alongside other recyclable materials, with separate chambers allowing different waste streams to be kept apart.
  • Horizontal balers - used where cardboard volumes are higher and material is fed more frequently, including by bins, tippers or mechanical handling equipment.
  • Fully automatic balers - used where cardboard is fed continuously by conveyor or as part of a larger waste handling line.

All cardboard balers we supply meet relevant UK and CE safety requirements.

Cardboard Waste Handling

Cardboard balers are used for:

  • Cardboard boxes
  • Flattened packaging
  • Paperboard and corrugated cardboard

Finished bales can be stored on pallets or in a designated area until collection.

Depending on specification, some machines are also used for paper and certain plastics.

Cardboard Baler Selection

Machine choice is influenced by the amount of cardboard handled, available space and how material is fed into the baler.

Smaller vertical balers are commonly installed where cardboard builds up steadily. Horizontal and automatic balers are installed where cardboard volumes are higher or where material is being fed from production or packing areas.

Where volumes or handling methods change, machines can be changed or upgraded accordingly.

If you’re unsure which cardboard baler is suitable, we can review how cardboard is produced and handled on site and advise accordingly.

Refurbished Cardboard Balers

In addition to new equipment, we also supply refurbished cardboard balers. These machines are serviced, tested and restored to a high working standard.

Refurbished balers are commonly selected where budgets are tighter or where a cost-effective option is preferred.

Cardboard balers are often supplied alongside baler strapping, baler wire and other recycling consumables matched to the machine size and material being baled.

We supply cardboard balers to businesses across the UK.
