EPS Compactors
Polystyrene waste, often referred to as EPS (expanded polystyrene), takes up a disproportionate amount of space. Loose EPS packaging fills bins quickly, spreads easily and is expensive to collect because it’s mostly air. A polystyrene compactor compresses this material into dense blocks, making it far easier to store, move and recycle. At Landfill Alternatives, we supply polystyrene compactors on both a sale and lease basis. These machines are used on sites that handle EPS packaging and need to keep loose foam under control.

Waste Polystyrene Compactors (EPS Compactors)
Material is loaded into the hopper and compacted into dense EPS blocks that can be stacked neatly or stored ready for collection.
Lower-output machines are suited to sites producing smaller volumes of EPS, while higher-capacity models are designed for busier operations where polystyrene builds up throughout the day.
Models with an integrated pre-shredder are used where EPS items are bulky or inconsistent in size. The pre-shredder breaks material down before compaction, allowing the machine to handle larger volumes and produce more consistent blocks.
In practice:
• LFA EPSC 1 and LFA EPSC 2 are typically used on sites with lower to moderate EPS volumes.
• LFA EPSC 3 and LFA EPSC 4 include a pre-shredder and are better suited to higher volumes or bulkier polystyrene packaging.
These machines are commonly used for EPS packaging, protective inserts, loose polystyrene and foam packaging that accumulates quickly in goods-in or despatch areas.
Once compacted, EPS can be sent into specialist polystyrene recycling streams. Compacted EPS is far easier and cheaper to transport than loose material, and dense blocks are generally preferred by recyclers. While recycling values vary depending on volume and location, compacting EPS is often the first step towards reducing disposal costs and improving site organisation.
All polystyrene compactors we supply meet relevant UK and CE safety requirements.
Choosing the Right EPS Compactor
Most sites choose a polystyrene compactor based on the amount of EPS produced, the size of the packaging being handled and whether a pre-shredder is required.
Sites dealing with smaller volumes of clean EPS often opt for a simpler compactor. Where EPS packaging is bulky, irregular or produced in higher quantities, a pre-shredder model is usually more suitable.
If you’re unsure which EPS compactor fits your operation, we can look at how your polystyrene waste is generated and stored and recommend the right machine from the range.
We supply polystyrene compactors to businesses across the UK.
