Vertical Balers
Widely used by businesses that need to deal with cardboard, paper or plastic waste in a straightforward, practical way. They’re common in warehouses, retail units, factories and hospitality sites where recyclable waste builds up steadily during the day and needs to be kept under control. At Landfill Alternatives, we supply vertical balers on both a sale and lease basis. Many sites, using a baler means fewer collections, less loose waste on site and far less reliance on bins or skips that fill up quickly.

What materials can be baled?
Frequently Asked Questions

Step 1 - Load the Material
Recyclable material, such as cardboard boxes, plastic film or paper is loaded through a top door into the chamber and compacted using a hydraulic ram. Boxes do not need to be broken down, and machines are often positioned close to packing areas or stockrooms so waste can be dealt with as it builds up.

Step 2 - Run the Compaction Cycle
Activate the baler to compress the material using the hydraulic ram. Each cycle reduces the volume of waste and builds the bale inside the chamber. Built-in safety features prevent the machine operating unless doors are properly closed.

Step 3 – Tie and Eject the Bale
The bale is then tied off using plastic strapping or baler wire before being removed, either by hand, with a trolley or using a semi-automatic eject system, depending on the model.

Step 4 - Storage and Collection
The finished bale can then be stored neatly ready for collection or recycling. Compact bales are easier to handle, reduce disposal costs and, depending on the material and volume, can sometimes generate a rebate.
